Gizmodo made a video of the ESPN MVP, using features like video, news, and my personal favorite, Player Tracker. There’s no sound and it’s a bit blurry, but you can see what it’s all about.

Perhaps you’ve seen the commercials for the ESPN MVP. If you’re a VCast user, you can access it (outside of VCast) by selecting Get Going (or Tools on the Go), then Get New Applications. MSNBC is launching NewsBreakers a game played by the audience at movie theaters, where the people move left and right to move the joystick in a version of Breakout that is up on the movie screen.

They also provide a YouTube clip and it’s pretty awesome.

Today, I introduced my grandmother to Wikipedia. She has an email account that she checks about once a year, so you can imagine how floored she was that this online collection had a ton of information about an obscure psycho-analyst she asked about. She looked in several encyclopedias, including Britannica, and found nary a sentence. Meanwhile, Wikipedia had a full entry, including personal history and education, as well as full sections on each of his psycho-analytical ideals.

I even showed her my own contributions to Wikipedia. You can imagine which topics I covered. Here’s hoping she becomes a return visitor to Wikipedia, and even manages to return some of my emails!

According to the available statistics, this will be the 100th post for this blog. In just two short months, I have talked way too much and should probably shut up.

I’m sure you heard about the bride who cut off her hair on her wedding day. Well, apparently, it’s a fake, as reported on Lost Remote. The woman is apparently actress Jodi Behan, from Toronto. As South Park says, blame Canada.

The clip was only moderately believable, but it was picked up by a ton of “serious” media outlets. I’m not sure if I should post it under Humor or Tech. How about both?

I just saw a commercial for My Circle from Alltel. I had never seen this before. Reminds me a lot of programs like My Faves, and my personal favorite, the Calling Lineup. On the Alltel website, they’ve got a great feature, called Compare-O-Matic for comparing Alltel’s plan with similar plans from other companies. Look at the heads representing Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Is that a potshot at another phone company?

I’m not sure how I missed this, but about a year ago, a deadline was set to switch all American television from analog to digital on February 18, 2009. Basically, a digital converter box will be required to receive any signal for any channel after that date.

Most people I know already have digital cable or satellite or rely on BitTorrent for their television. However, I know a few specific people who might not be ready for the change. Given that they still have dial-up internet, I guess I should give them some advance warning: how does two years sound?

NASCAR is the new football. For $12.95 a month, you can get access to Raceview on NASCAR.com. Now, I am hardly an auto racing fan. In fact, I put a bunch of sports ahead of it, including cricket. But Raceview, judging from the screenshot, might be about the most advanced sports-following technology I have ever seen. Lost Remote says it well: “It’s almost enough to turn me into a NASCAR fan.”

Here is an interesting take on Day Break, a show which was taken off the air in December with an announcement that the remaining episodes would be streamed online. Due to music rights issues, that date has been pushed back to January 29th.

I enjoyed the show a bit, but it’s been a while since I saw it, and I’m not really that excited about watching an action packed show on my computer. It’s interesting that music rights were what held this up. There is clearly a lot of that sort of stuff in the future of online television.
